2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi

I just saw the BBC’s advert for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi = trailer for a really cheesy Twilight take of Game of thrones! When looking for images for this post I came across these very peculiar images of Clare Balding, Hazel Irvine and Jonathan Edwards. They most certainly have had a dose of the Twilight vampire effect. I don’t really understand why they felt they had to overly process the stills of the presenters. I’m not totally hating on the ad but for me it doesn’t beat the efforts of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

The Art of Flight

Oaft! This is going to be amazing…

Boarders Travis Rice, John Jackson,  Scotty Lago and Mark Landvik, among others, travelled to Alaska, Aspen,Chile, Patagonia, Jackson Hole, British Columbia and more to create The Art of Flight. This film looks like more than your average boarding movie, it’s in a whole new league of its own and I can’t wait until it’s release in September! Goose pimples!

Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010

I want to pay homage to the beautiful work of StudioAKA, who have produced the new BBC Sport – 2010 Winter Olympics Animation in Vancouver. If you haven’t seen it or noticed it, shame on you (or you just have a life and don’t watch TV or live abroad) Watch the ad below and enjoy.

Shaun White’s own half pipe

If Carlsberg made half pipes they’d probably be the best half pipes in the world… Hell no, Red Bull made one recently and made it all for pro boarder Shaun White. Imagine that! The video is inevitably quite cheesy and I wish someone would tell him to trim his mane! Thankfully the predictable rocker love hand gesture (see below) appears only once,  but when you get past all that it doesn’t seem too nippy and I quite enjoyed it. There’s no denying that Redbull have produced a pretty amazing pipe for the 23 year old snowboarder.

Chanel Sport

This spring Chanel are bringing out a range of surf boards for all those celebrities to rip some waves in style. Like the Chanel ski’s I can’t really imagine anyone but the Beckhams or supermodels actually buying these, to help them attempted some gnarly extreme sports!! Here is a collection of other sports wear that Chanel have made to make the lives of the rich and famous that little bit more chic. Cough, Naff.

…Ummm, I was sure there was a beach in central Paris….keep walking love!

Ohh yes, the Chanel rubber dingy, what better vessle to watch F1 in Monaco than this…WHY bother Chanel?!!!

Ahhhh, thats why!! So that you can use your Chanel Angling Kit of course ( follow the link for a rant about this ridiculous Kit written by an equally bemused blogger) . But don’t forget to remove your 6″ heels as you may tear the dingy, I would recommend these bad boys…

What’s more manly than seeing a guy playing basketball with, yes you got it, a Chanel basket ball or American football.

…ohh dear. I just don’t see them catching on… Stick to the perfumes and the clothing.

Finally, Victoria Beckham’s Area of  expertise. Look how she demonstrates the skill and poise required in skiing, not to mention the excellent choice of clothing.

I’ll meet you in the middle

Normally at this time of year I start to feel depressed that yet again a long, wet and windy winter is approaching us and I will not be going off to the mountains to have a season of snow, mountains, boarding and liver disease. So I will have to do a snow dance now in the hope the wee hills in Scotland get a decent dusting and I can look forward to a few days of button tow inner thigh agony, a scraped up board and 2 minutes of boarding from top to bottom, while dodging the mud and rocks… sounds great doesn’t it! Heee heee.

So when I came across freeboarding I was very intrigued…

Freeboarding is sold as Snowboarding all year long, any hill, any time, no lift ticket, no lift lines, no off season. Ohh but the snow, the goggle marks, the powder, the air… It’s not the same.

compromise Lixa! Yes, we can’t always live at the bottom of a mountain and if this is the deal then why not give it a shot. The freebord’s outside wheels act like the edge of a snowboard and the middle wheel looks like it takes your central balance from going heel to toe. Stopping is apparently exactly the same as you would do on snow and the Freebord combines both carving and sliding. Well Edinburgh is full of hills so why not give it a shot? Although it’s a possible alternative to the mountains it will never have the same kind of freedom as the mountains. All you folk planning your seasons now, enjoy not having to compromise anything.
