Arcade Fire, The Wilderness Downtown

Arcade Fire’s  interactive video The Wilderness Downtown by Chris Milk is amazin’! The video, used in Google Chrome, is a combination of animation, video and google earth/ street view all shown in multiple windows in your screen. You write in where you grew up and then a personalised video of that area is generated. Half way through the song We Used To Wait a screen pops up asking you to draw or write a message on a postcard to the younger you that lived there. It makes a pretty sweet watch, (I am a bit of a geek for maps)  if anything it’s a new way of looking at music videos which is always a good thing… Go do yours HERE!!

Below are some screen shots from my journey, the bottom image is my postcard…

Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010

I want to pay homage to the beautiful work of StudioAKA, who have produced the new BBC Sport – 2010 Winter Olympics Animation in Vancouver. If you haven’t seen it or noticed it, shame on you (or you just have a life and don’t watch TV or live abroad) Watch the ad below and enjoy.

Directed by Marc Craste and Designed by John Klassen

Here’s a reminder of how good the BBC advert for the 2008 Beijing Olympics was.

Good job Beeb!

Pringle by David Shrigley

This is brilliant and highly recommend taking the 3 minute 10 seconds out of your busy life to enjoy this animation. Luxury knitwear Pringle commissioned David Shrigley to create a humorous animation about life behind-the-scenes at Pringle to celebrate the brands return to Milan Fashion Week. I love the voice over and all the subtle humour within the illustration.

Paper Love

I have blogged before about Origami and I’m always on the look out for paper sculptures and structures. Today I found this sweet wee animation by Makoto Yabuki called White Box and had to share it with you all. Enjoy.

This stool was made out of paper by Simone Pullens and she ensures that you can sit on the paper structure.

The work below is by Peter Callesen who mainly works with A4 sheets of paper, for a far more comprehensive explanation of his work check out his website.

Animation

I received an email the other day from a guy I went to primary school with called Joe Richardson, with a link to his website that has animations and drawings (including some funny wee monster dolls). Its a quirky site with very amusing content,  slightly sick and twisted sometimes but definitely worth a look. In some of the animation he uses collages either of pictures or painted images which are scanned in and animated using flash, I’m not going to pretend I know what I am talking about when it comes to flash so have a look for yourselves.  I found ‘Lollies’ particularly entertaining.
