It’s made only more special by Radiohead’s Everything in Its Right Place played as the soundtrack. Ahhh if only I’d stuck at ballet!

I’m sorry for the slack behaviour towards my blogging, one weeks break became two and then three and so on and then all of a sudden it was the 5 months! However I have now decided to crawl out of the little rock that ive been hiding behind and start posting again! So I thought I’d start with these otherworldly portraits of animals by Swedish artist Simen Johan.

“Photographs from Simen Johan’s ongoing project, Until the Kingdom Comes, depict an unsettling natural world hovering between reality, fantasy and nightmare. Johan merges traditional photographic and sculptural techniques with digital methods. Having originally photographed a variety of plants and animals in natural preserves, zoos, farms, museum dioramas or his own studio, the artist then resituates them digitally into new environments constructed from images photographed elsewhere.” Yossi Milo Gallery

Last night I read an article on the Guardian website by Sarah Hughes about re-watching My So-Called Life as an adult, reading the article made me want to do exactly the same thing. Get the article here. Here’s a wee tribute to the wonderful short-lived show that made my teenage heart swell.

You know how sometimes the last sentence you said, like, echoes in your brain, and it just keeps sounding stupider? And you have to say something else just to make it stop?

“When I was little I, like, worshipped Halloween. And truthfully, part of me still does. ‘Cause it’s your one chance all year to be someone else.”

“Love is when you look into someone’s eyes and suddenly you go all the way inside, to their soul, and you both know instantly. I always imagined I’d fall in love nursing a blind soldier who was wounded in battle. Or maybe while rescuing someone in the middle of a blizzard, seconds before the avalanche hits. I thought at least by the age of 15 I’d have a love life, but I don’t even have a like life!”

Ohhhhhhhh the angst… I so, so glad I’m not a teenager anymore! However it still pulls on my heart-strings. Right, I’m off to order the box set!

“The EXIT festival came into being in the year 2000 as an act of rebellion against the regime of Slobodan Milosevic, that had for years been keeping Serbia out of touch with the outside world. That summer thousands of young people from Novi Sad gathered in the campus park by the Danube River where concerts, parties and art performances took place.  There were also discussions and debates where the young were able to express their opposition to the imposed nationalism, xenophobia, censorship and repression. The event lasted for 100 days and its grand finale was the ‘Get out to Vote’ party, which was held one day before the elections that saw the downfall of Milosevic.”
