Last night I read an article on the Guardian website by Sarah Hughes about re-watching My So-Called Life as an adult, reading the article made me want to do exactly the same thing. Get the article here. Here’s a wee tribute to the wonderful short-lived show that made my teenage heart swell.

You know how sometimes the last sentence you said, like, echoes in your brain, and it just keeps sounding stupider? And you have to say something else just to make it stop?

“Love is when you look into someone’s eyes and suddenly you go all the way inside, to their soul, and you both know instantly. I always imagined I’d fall in love nursing a blind soldier who was wounded in battle. Or maybe while rescuing someone in the middle of a blizzard, seconds before the avalanche hits. I thought at least by the age of 15 I’d have a love life, but I don’t even have a like life!”

“Huge events take place on this earth every day. Earthquakes, hurricanes…even glaciers move. So why couldn’t he just…look at me?”

“They weren’t the kind of kisses you could actually evaluate. They were more like… introductory kisses.”

“When you call someone’s name, like, kind of loud, and they don’t hear you, it makes you feel really lonely.”

“Have you ever just, like, completely given up on someone, and then something happens, and you go, “Oh my God. There’s so much more to this person than I ever dreamed!”

Ohhhhhhhh the angst… I so, so glad I’m not a teenager anymore! However it still pulls on my heart-strings. Right, I’m off to order the box set!

“The EXIT festival came into being in the year 2000 as an act of rebellion against the regime of Slobodan Milosevic, that had for years been keeping Serbia out of touch with the outside world. That summer thousands of young people from Novi Sad gathered in the campus park by the Danube River where concerts, parties and art performances took place.  There were also discussions and debates where the young were able to express their opposition to the imposed nationalism, xenophobia, censorship and repression. The event lasted for 100 days and its grand finale was the ‘Get out to Vote’ party, which was held one day before the elections that saw the downfall of Milosevic.”

Edinburgh’s first ever ‘Pop-up” Stitch Lounge : 21st & 22nd May 2011, 10am-10pm

As part of the ‘No Concessions’ fashion season at Inspace, the Stitch Lounge is taking over the laboratory, bringing ‘makers’ and ‘players’ together for one weekend only to create some fast fashion. We’ve patterns at the ready, 10 Singer sewing machines raring to go, plus hundreds of meters of white fabric and a ton of clothes to customise. Everyone is encouraged to join in, experiment and get those little hands busy.

Punctuating the weekend, and just in time for Afternoon Tea too, the Stitch Lounge will host informal round table discussions by fashion industry specialists on Saturday and Sunday at 4:00 pm. Work in progress will go on display at 8:00 pm on Saturday 21st, and then on Sunday 22nd at 8:00 pm the weekend will conclude with an off-the-wall runway show, bubbly and live music. The shows about to start…
